| Printmaking Today
(a quarterly journal of contemporary international graphic art) in a
review by Rosemary Simmons Hon.R.E.: "The far West of England is rugged and individualistic and so are its artists. Ten of them have taken the unusual initiative of explaining printmaking to the public and their own particular enjoyment of the medium. A brief description of each of the seven techniques used by the group is followed by a short account of each artist and their own use of the chosen method, woodcut, wood-engraving, linocut, etching, drypoint, screenprint and monoprint. This is an admirable introduction aimed at a public very hazy about the complexity covered by the blanket word 'print'." |

| Brian Hanscomb
R.E. writes: "Most interesting to me is the attraction that the Penwith Peninsula has to so many individuals who appear to be strongly drawn to its spiritual aspect. Much of this empathy has been shown within these prints with surprisingly different personal approaches ranging from quite intense topographical representation to symbolic, surreal and even whimsical humour. The combination of the artists' personal comments together with technical explanations all help to enhance the readers' appreciation and understanding. Overall the book is an excellent collaborative production that highlights the art and craft of printmaking from a very skilled group of artists. they are to be congratulated on publishing such a well crafted book that will bring the whole genre of printmaking before a wider audience." |
